About the Author

Welcome.

I’m Margot MacPherson Brewer.

I’m a writer, sociologist, attorney, entrepreneur, caregiver, and lifelong student of people and the stories they tell themselves. My academic journey took me from the University of New Brunswick to the University of Toronto, the University of Victoria, and eventually the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. Along the way I built a consulting practice, raised a family, accumulated more life lessons than I ever expected, and discovered that writing remained the one constant thread through it all.

Expressive Compulsive is where I explore the intersections of identity, family, aging, grief, resilience, reinvention, and the frequent absurdities of modern life. These essays are drawn from observation, experience, curiosity, and a conviction that even our most personal stories often reveal something universal.

I currently live in Central Florida, where I divide my time between writing, caregiving, and building Wissthaven—a place dedicated to wonder, connection, and second acts.
